Throughout her tenure in both the SEALs and DEVGRU, Fury was noted by her superiors to suffer from issues with authority and structure. Readily accepting, Hernandez continued to surpass her superior's expectations by completing DEVGRU training. As she continued serving with the Navy, she was approached by DEVGRU, who offered her a position within their ranks. Shortly after completing her studies in psychology, she enlisted into the United States Navy at the age of 22, where she volunteered for Navy SEAL training, eventually becoming the first woman to become a US Navy Special Warfare Operator, despite the intense pressure from the "male-centric" culture of the units she served in. Favouring more male-dominated self-defence activities, such as boxing and jiu jitsu during her youth, she eventually became proficient in both major sports and competed at a national level when she was 16. Born in San Diego, California, Fury had always been labeled a tomboy.
